SSMVR Keynote 2 - Imaging and 3D Tissue Mapping for Functional Assessment in Primary Lymphatic Anomalies
Advances in lymphatic imaging and tissue analysis are transforming our ability to measure and track lymphatic health across the spectrum from normal physiological to disease. This lecture will present recent work using near-infrared indocyanine green (NIR-ICG) imaging and magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL) to characterise lymphatic structure and function in healthy individuals and patients with primary lymphatic anomalies. In addition, I will present our recent developments in the investigation of of human lymphatic networks using three-dimensional tissue clearing and histological reconstruction of skin biopsies. These approaches provide novel insights into the lympho-vascular architecture associated with different genetic forms of lymphatic disease. By enabling detailed investigation directly in human tissues, they offer an important complementary strategy and, in some contexts, a potential replacement for transgenic animal models, consistent with the principles of the 3Rs.
