Abstract submission guidelines
- Abstracts can be submitted in the categories “Oral communication” or “Poster presentation”. Authors submitting their abstract as an “Oral Communication” should indicate at the time of abstract submission whether they would also be willing to present their work as a “Poster presentation” in case their abstract is not selected by the Jury, or whether they would withdraw the abstract under these circumstances.
- Abstracts may only be submitted online. Abstracts sent by fax or email will not be considered.
- Abstracts must be submitted in English.
- If an abstract is accepted, the information provided on the authors’ affiliations will be published in the conference brochure. We take no responsibility for incomplete or incorrect address details.
- The title and text of the abstract should not be written in CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Names of authors, institutes or hospitals should not be mentioned in the abstract title or in the abstract main text.
- The content of the abstract must be structured as follows: Objective / Methods / Results / Conclusion.
- The background and objectives of the project should be clear and comprehensible. The methodology and the results need to refer to each other ("no method without result, no result without method") and should be limited to the main objectives. The conclusion must be clear, relevant and based on the results presented.
- The character count is limited to 2400 characters (including spaces, but excluding title, author names and affiliations). Exceeding this limit can result in rejection of the abstract.
- Submitted abstracts will be evaluated on content and style. Up to 10 points for the content and up to 4 points for the style can be awarded, yielding a maximum score of 14 points. The scientific committee assesses the abstracts on the basis of content and formal criteria. Abstracts that do not meet the minimum standards are not evaluated, but directly rejected.

Style Scoring (max. 4 points)
Structure
- Coherent: Title and objectives reflect the content; text is concise and remains focused on the subject area
- Comprehensive: Purpose of the study, objectives, subjects and methods used, key results and main conclusions are clearly described
- Complete: Sufficient information within the Abstract, accurate results description, study limitations, possible ethical aspects, further steps etc.
- Logical: Well structured, rational argumentation, appropriate and connected conclusions are drawn
Writing style
- Clarity and simplicity: Fluidly written, no unexplained abbreviations/terms used
- Accuracy: No spelling or grammatical errors
- In the case tables and graphics are necessary for an objective evaluation of your abstract, these must be submitted in pdf format, together with the abstract.
- Do not format the text (underline, bold, italics, superscript or subscript). Guideline for character usage:

Greek letters spell out (e.g. IFN-g or IFN-gamma instead of IFN-g)
- Submission of an abstract will be confirmed by email.
- The submitting author will be informed in writing whether his / her abstract has been accepted or not. Acceptance of an abstract results in a binding registration for the congress, especially for the submitting (first) author.
- Acceptance of an abstract requires a binding registration of the presenting author to the congress.
- The abstracts of the presentations and posters appear unread and uncorrected (also with regard to grammar and spelling) on the website of the Union Congress. The responsibility for the abstract text lies entirely with the author, co-authors, and supervisors.
